Executive Summary

In the rapidly evolving world of decentralized finance (DeFi), Meta Pool embarked on an ambitious project to redefine user experience (UX) and expand its brand presence across the blockchain landscape. The Meta Pool dApps’ Ecosystem & Multi-chain Integration project, running from February 2022 to March 2023, aimed to consolidate five distinct decentralized applications (dApps) into a singular, cohesive ecosystem while extending support to multiple blockchains. This case study delves into the challenges faced, the methodologies employed to overcome them, and the remarkable outcomes that set a new benchmark for UX in the crypto space.

Introduction

The project's genesis was driven by a clear vision: to integrate Meta Pool's suite of dApps into a unified platform that supports liquid staking across various blockchains, thereby establishing Meta Pool as the premier liquid staking multi-chain protocol operated by a DAO. This vision was underpinned by objectives to enhance user trust, improve UX for increased user adoption, elevate company KPIs, and ensure resilience in a bear market through a design that embodies trust and transparency.

Conceptualizing the Brand

The foundation was laid by unraveling the essence of the blockchain—the very core of Meta Pool's operations. The concept of "block by block, yield is generated" resonated deeply. This translated into our logo, where a rotated grid forming the letter "M" symbolized this process, anchoring the brand in the very principle of crypto growth.

Challenge Overview

Brand Dilution
The existing spread of dApps under different names and branding weakened Meta Pool's market position.

User Experience Disparities
Users expressed frustrations with inconsistent experiences across the dApps, and some perceived the platform as untrustworthy.

Market Expansion
The need to penetrate emerging markets with a solution that appeals to non-traditional crypto users, coupled with the ambition to become a DAO, necessitated a UX overhaul.

Technical Complexity
Integrating multiple blockchains introduced significant complexity, requiring a UX that could simplify the user's journey.

Research & Methodology

A rigorous UX research initiative was the cornerstone of the project. Engaging with over 100 users through interviews, usability testing, and surveys, the team gathered insights that shaped the project's direction. Competitive and market analysis highlighted the necessity for a user-centric design that transcends the technical prowess to cater to user trust and comprehension.

Ideation & Design Process

The design process was iterative and collaborative, involving synthesis of research data, ideation workshops, and extensive prototyping. Solutions were crafted through a user-first lens, focusing on simplifying the complex nature of DeFi transactions while reinforcing trust through design. The integration of educational onboarding, user-friendly design, seamless transactions, and a unified ecosystem approach marked significant milestones in the design phase.

This approach not only made the platform inviting to new users but also catered to the needs of users in developing countries, offering them a tangible solution to combat fiat currency devaluation.

Outcomes

The project's success was reflected in measurable KPIs: a 63% increase in Total Value Locked (TVL) by February 2023, a 58% increase in new user accounts, and an impressive 348% growth in social media followers throughout 2023. The NPS score post-launch was a remarkable 88, underscoring the positive user reception to the revamped design and integrated services.
